Having a Better Relationship with Your Teen

If you’ve seen any amount of television or movies in your lifetime, you know how Hollywood depicts the typical parent-teen relationship. Usually mom and dad are the village idiots and the teenagers are disrespectful, sullen and withdrawn. Well, before your relationship gets to this point, remember that the dreaded teen years actually don’t have to be the dreaded teen years. That’s simply another myth we’ve been groomed to accept with a shrug of our shoulders and a cluck of our tongues. “This is normal, my teenager hates me like every other teenager hates their parents.” If this is your attitude before you reach the teen years, then unless you change your thinking, you’ll be circling the same tired old drain every other distraught parent is circling, wondering where you went wrong. The first hint is: you believed the bad press. Don’t.

Making Plans for a Special Bridal Party

A bridal shower is one of the most memorable days for a bride-to-be, and also one of the most enjoyable parts of theme party planning for the hostess. It is not just the gifts, but the magic of the possibilities that lay before her. There are ways to make this day even more special for the guest of honor.

One way to make the party event special is to have it in a theme of a vintage tea party. Women have loved tea parties since their childhood make-believe days. A tea party bridal shower sets the mood for magical moments to begin for the bride.

You can either hold the party at an official tea room or make the event unique by asking your guests to bring a vintage teacup and saucer to the bridal shower no matter where it is being held. If guests do not bring a teacup, the hostess will provide one for them. It is important to have extra cups and saucers as back up just in case someone forgets to bring one.

How to Develop Fine Motor Skills for Young Children

Developing fine motor skills helps your children become ready for school. They need strength in their fingers, hands, shoulders, arms and core to become efficient and skilful at printing, painting etc.

Any time your children are using pencils, crayons, scissors, paint brushes or playing with play dough, they are developing their fine motor skills.

Sometimes, watch what they are doing and make suggestions on how to hold the pencil or crayon correctly or better yet, colour or draw along side of them so they begin to copy you.

Some games you could do at home include:

1. Give your child your kitchen tongs and a bowl filled with cotton balls. Place another bowl beside it and have your child move the cotton balls, using the tongs to move the cotton balls from one bowl to the other.

2. Use play dough. Have your child roll snakes and balls and introduce some tolls such as knives, potato ricer, cookie cutters for her to experiment with.

3. Give her some bubble wrap and get her to squeeze and pinch it.

4. Crumpling or tearing paper – try different types like tissue, newspaper, paper towel, junk mail, coffee filters etc.
